Writing a memoir is possible for anyone who's lived through something interesting or painful or humorous. Because humans communicate through story, your memoir can be a powerful communication tool. But how do you take the often chaotic elements of your story and turn them into compelling memoir? What do you include? What do you leave out? Why should anyone care? Who is your audience, and what do you plan to do with your memoir? In this workshop you'll learn how to touch people's lives with your own. You'll learn fifteen common errors to avoid as you turn your experiences into a creative story that will inspire and encourage others. Come with an idea, leave with a plan.
Catherine Friend is the author of two memoirs, Hit by a Farm: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Barn and Sheepish: Two women, Fifty Sheep, and Enough Wool to Save the Planet, both published by DeCapo Press. Other books include The Compassionate Carnivore, recipient of the 2009 Minnesota Book Award in General Ninfiction, and The Perfect Nest, a children's picture book nominated for numerous state reading awards. She has been awarded a Loft/McKnight Artist Fellowship for Writers, and her adult novels have won awards from the Golden Crown Literary Society and the Independent Book Publishers Association. Catherine lives on a small farm in southeastern Minnesota.
